Massage Cold & Flu policies

I recently received my COVID and flu vaccines. Can I still keep my appointment with my massage therapist?

Once a vaccine is injected into your muscle, it’s absorbed into the bloodstream at a specific rate to trigger an immune response. Massage can increase blood flow, which may speed up this process, potentially affecting how the vaccine works. Since everyone’s immune system reacts differently, it’s best to wait at least 10 days after your vaccine/shots before getting a massage. This helps ensure your body has enough time to respond properly for optimal health benefits.

I’ve been sick with a cold or flu for a week. My fever has gone, but I still feel unwell. I don’t think I’m contagious. Can I keep my appointment with my massage therapist?

We recommend rescheduling your appointment. Even if you feel like you're no longer contagious, there are still risks. You could spread the virus to your therapist, who may have other clients that day, and potentially infect others despite sanitation efforts. Additionally, if you’re still showing symptoms, there’s a chance of further complications, like bronchitis or sinus infections. For your safety and the safety of others, it’s best to wait until you’re fully recovered before scheduling a session.

I’ve been sick, but I’m not sure what it was. Can I still keep my appointment with my massage therapist?

It depends on how long it's been since you’ve been symptom-free. If you haven’t had symptoms for at least 7 days, it’s best to reschedule. Without knowing exactly what illness you had, we treat all symptomatic clients as if they might have COVID, per guidance from the AMTA and the Department of Health. Please wait until you’re symptom-free for at least a week to ensure the safety of everyone. If you're still experiencing symptoms like sore throat, runny nose, cough, or fatigue, please reschedule.

I’m not sick, but my child has been home with the flu or a cold. Can I still keep my appointment with my massage therapist?

We ask that you reschedule your appointment. The flu, cold, and COVID are highly contagious, and you might be contagious even before showing symptoms. Because there’s no way to know for sure whether you’re carrying the virus, it's safer to reschedule your session to avoid any risk of spreading illness.

I don’t have a cold or the flu, but I’m on antibiotics. Can I still keep my appointment with my massage therapist?

We recommend postponing your appointment. Antibiotics can affect how your body responds to infection, and massage may unintentionally spread an infection deeper into your body by stimulating circulation. There are many factors at play, so for your health and safety, we advise rescheduling your session for 7-10 days after completing your antibiotic treatment.
